Monster Monday: The Crawling Chaos

The Heretic is a living nightmare. It lacks a defined shape, constantly shifting and pulsating with a sickly bioluminescence. Imagine a writhing mass of raw flesh and bone, glistening with digestive enzymes, and you might get a glimpse of its horrifying form. Its hunger seems insatiable, evidenced by the grotesque remnants of its victims occasionally visible within its ever-shifting form.

“The flickering emergency lights played across the mangled remains of the security officer, casting grotesque shadows on the pulsating mass of flesh blocking the corridor. Engineer Tanaka stumbled back, his heart hammering against his ribs. The Heretic, as they’d dubbed it, twitched and writhed, its form shifting and oozing. A single, pulsating eye, formed from the assimilated remains of a bioluminescent deep-sea fish, locked onto him. Panic clawed at Tanaka’s throat. He knew standard weapons wouldn’t work. There was nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. He was trapped with this monstrosity, a chilling realization that sent a primal scream tearing from his throat.”

Subject: Experiment X-429: Heretic

Summary: Today marks the culmination of three grueling years of research and a series of setbacks that nearly derailed the entire Lazarus initiative. Experiment X-429 has yielded… unexpected results.

We successfully merged the regenerative properties of Sample X-17 with a modified human stem cell culture, incorporating a self-replication protocol derived from extremophile bacteria. The initial growth was promising. The bio-mass displayed rapid cellular division and a remarkable ability to self-repair minor injuries. However, within 24 hours, the growth pattern became erratic. The bio-mass began exhibiting a disturbing motility, extending pseudopods and pulsating with an unnatural bioluminescence.

Incident Report: At 03:42 standard time, a containment breach occurred. The bio-mass, now designated “Heretic,” breached its primary containment field through unknown means. Security footage captured the horrifying sight of Heretic dissolving the access panel with a caustic enzyme secretion and assimilating the unfortunate security officer on duty. The emergency containment protocols were initiated; however, Heretic managed to evade secondary containment measures by squeezing through a ventilation shaft.
